Comrade Motupa Evans Selomo was born on 21st June 1973 in the rural village of Moshakga, Bolobedu under the Greater Letaba Local Municipality in Mopani District of Limpopo province. He was the fifth son of the late Mohale Refilwe Selomo and Mrs Sewela Rebecca Selomo. Cde Evans was a father, a husband, son, uncle but above all a revolutionary cadre, a political commissar, freedom fighter and an outstanding leader who cut his political teeth in student political activism. He grew within the ranks to become President of the Student Representative Council(SRC) at Magoletsa High School where he also became involved in the Congress of South African Students (COSAS) of Bolobedu Zone which he led as Deputy Chairperson. At the University of Venda where he enrolled for a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1993, it did not take long before he was involved in the activities of SASCO which he led in various capacities. Amongst the position he held in SASCO include being elected the Provincial Deputy Secretary in Limpopo province. In 1995, he was elected as Secretary General of the Student Representative Council (SRC) at University of Venda and later President in 1996. Evans Selomo was an all-rounded communicator who served government at the most senior levels. He was the Head of the Government Communications and Information System (GCIS) Department in Limpopo province amongst other responsibilities. Prior serving as the Chief Director of Traditional Affairs in Limpopo Coghsta, Evans successfully championed the Community Development Workers (CDW) programme and did serve at one stage for four years as the (Acting) Deputy Director General of Corporate Services. During his lifetime, Selomo prioritised education. This saw him acquiring a string of qualifications which include a BA degree, BA Hons majoring in Political science and a Master’s in Public Administration (MPA) amongst other qualifications. He was an active ANC and SACP member. Comrade Evans was a member of the UNIVEN Council until his last days on earth.

Motupa Evans Selomo Foundation was established in response to the overwhelming proposals from about 550 members who converged in the WhatsApp group immediately after his passing on. The said WhatsApp group was named “Rest in Peace Motupa Evans Selomo” and was established with the rationale to ensure that those who studied, worked or lived or served with him in different structures at least get an opportunity to bid a farewell to this revolutionary legend through tendering messages of condolences. Cde Motupa Evans Selomo was a true community leader and as messages of support trickles in, there was increasing feeling that honouring him with condolence messages may not be enough and having noted the magnitude of the funeral, the group decided on immediate task of assisting the family in organising the funeral and contributing financially as a way to bid farewell to this gallant fighter. No words or level of assistance was enough to bid farewell to Cde Motupa Selomo given the role he played from student politics to the workplace and community. Within a few days of his passing and after his funeral, there was an alarming proposal in the said WhatsApp group for establishment of Cde Motupa Selomo Foundation as a way to preserve and continue to deepen his legacy of empowering mankind. From student politics and civil servant work he stood for the improvement of the livelihoods of the masses. A task which many felt that those who lived, worked or served with him must continue to advance at all costs for the betterment of the lives of the downtrodden. It is against this background that Motupa Evans Selomo foundation exists today.
